Our Story

How MoQana Began

At the heart of our story is family.

Memories of Yemen where mom roasted coffee beans on the stove.

Support from loved ones to pursue a dream that could provide a livelihood.

Commitment by everyone involved to hold space for dignity, culture and integrity.

It Started With a Simple Question
The Beginning

It Started With a Simple Question

By the time we opened our doors in October of 2023, Yemeni coffee establishments were growing in popularity across the U.S. But we asked, why isn't there a Yemeni coffee house in Oklahoma? We wanted to create a space that not only brought this unique and delicious coffee to the Heartland but one that felt like home to the local middle-eastern community.

Originally named Mocha House, our first location was so well loved and supported, we quickly felt we were outgrowing the space. In the meantime, our partners who moved to Tennessee saw an opportunity to bring Yemeni coffee to the community of Cordova. We named it MoQana and set to establish our brand there before bringing it back to Oklahoma.

In February of 2026 we moved Mocha House just a mile up the road to a bigger location and gave it the name MoQana. This solidified the brand with our loyal Edmond customers who have been with us since day one.

More Than a Business
The Mission

More Than a Business

We know Yemeni coffee is often something people have never heard of until they walk through our doors – that's great! It's why we opened our doors in the first place.

Whether you are up for trying something new or simply want to enjoy your usual, you will never feel judged for your questions or choices at MoQana. Just like the mural on our wall walks through the timeline of Yemeni coffee, we want you to understand what you are ordering and feel heard along the way.

In a time where coffee shops are becoming a dime a dozen, our mission is to bring back the value of kind service and quality coffee or tea.

Respect is a cornerstone of how MoQana thrives and we feel that by cultivating an environment of integrity, both across the counter and behind it, our resilience will continue.

What We're Building
Today

What We're Building

Our customers, our staff, our family, our community. The people who lift up MoQana, not only as a business, but as a gathering place to share life over delicious cups of coffee – they are why our doors stay open.

With each day that passes, we maintain a standard of care for our brand. That care not only encompasses the food and drink we serve but to our employees and partners who support us. We are always acknowledging the blessings that befall our business which allow us to provide a livelihood for our team.

We proudly identify as a halal business and firmly believe that upholding those standards is the only way to maintain a thriving coffee house and community space. We wish to share this business standard with the world, across cultures and geography.

So whether you are just finding out about MoQana or you've been with us from the beginning, you can sip easy knowing that we are rooted in growing what we've created and our priority is our people.

And happy people love Yemeni coffee.

Why We Exist

More Than a Coffee Shop

When it comes to coffee and geography, Oklahoma and Yemen might appear to be in the middle of nowhere — though each with such rich history, they find themselves at the center of everything.

01

Rooted in Origin

Our beans come straight from Yemeni farmers whose families have been growing coffee for generations. No middlemen, no blending, no shortcuts.

02

Crafted with Intention

We take great care with every order. The way we see it, if it took six hundred years to get the bean right, the least we can do is brew it right.

03

Bridging Worlds

We're bringing a really old story to a brand new neighborhood. Same bean, same method — just a lot closer to home.

But Our Story Is Older Than Us

Long Before MoQana, There Was Yemen

The bean in your cup didn't start with us. It started six centuries ago, on terraced mountain slopes, in the hands of farmers who turned a wild fruit into the drink the whole world would come to love. This is where coffee began.

The Discovery

15th Century

The Discovery

Long before coffee was cultivated, it grew wild in the remote highland forests of Yemen. Bright red cherries ripened slowly under the sun, producing flavors the world had never tasted. The mountain soil was right, the altitude was right, and the beans that grew in it tasted like nothing else. Sufi monks were the first to brew them, using coffee to stay awake through long night prayers. From there it spread from the port and through the markets of Mocha. We still get our beans from farms in those same mountains — the same families, the same plants, the same cup people have been drinking for six hundred years.
